The history of the church began already in 1989 when we held our first meeting at Betel in Langevåg under the name Bønnegruppene. One year later, in 1990, we decided to change our name to Bønnesenteret, and started holding regular services in a basement in Åsetorget.
13th of February 1991 marked an important milestone for us. On that day we were officially founded as a congregation and we took the name Ålesund Kristne Senter. In 1995, Pastor Harald quit his job as an electrical engineer and started a full-time position as a pastor in the church.
After a few years in Åse, we stayed in premises in Emblem until 1998, when we bought the Pentecostal congregation's building in Borgundveien in the center of Ålesund. On the 16th of May 1999 we were able to celebrate the first church service in our own premises.
Borgundveien was our home for many years, but in December 2007 we bought our current premises in Storevågen. After many hours of hard work, we were finally able to celebrate our first worship service in Storevågen in March 2009.
In 2013 we started streaming the church services via the internet to reach our members who lived far away from our campus in Ålesund. After the following year, we started holding services in Stryn and at Aukra, where the members could gather and follow the service from Ålesund directly on the big screen.
In 2019 Pastor Yvonne was appointed as second pastor after working in the church since 2013.
In 2021, we took another big step when we bought part of Sentrumsgården in Stryn. Now our congregation in Stryn also got its own campus.
In 2023 we decided it was time to change our name. Now that we were a church in three different places and no longer just in Ålesund, we wanted a name that worked everywhere and united us as one congregation. After a long and thorough process, the decision was made to change the name to Vonkirka. Von is an old Norwegian word for hope, and we believe the gospel brings a wonderful message about exactly this - that Jesus is the hope for everyone!
